Olive Oil?

What is the different between virgin olive oil and extra virgin olive oil and does it matter which one you use in a recipe? Will it make something taste worst or better depending on how virgin the olive oil is?Olive Oil?
The extra virgin olive oil comes from the first pressing of the olives, and the regular virgin olive oil is further processed. When it comes from the first pressing, alot of the flavor is preserved and the taste is much better. I always use extra virgin olive oil. It doesn't really matter which one you use in a recipe, though.Olive Oil?
Both are first pressed, processing methods are identical. If you compare to say orange juice, you will make better juice from fresh oranges than from 1 wk old cut open overripe ones, olive oil is the same and poorer fruit even when first cold pressed = virgin olive oil. Report Abuse

virgin is alway better.......it's just thicker fluids, yeahhhh and does make it taste better....
Both extra virgin and virgin olive oils are from the FIRST pressing of the olives.

The olive oil is then classified based upon it's acidity.

If it's more acidic, then it's classified as Virgin Olive Oil.

In terms of cooking, Extra Virgin Olive Oil is more expensive and heat does reduce its flavor so Extra Virgin Olive Oil is usually used ';as is'; in salad dressings or as a dip.

Virgin Olive Oil is less expensive so people generally use it for both dressing and for cooking.
regular olive oil is made unstrained and it is more full flavored then extra virgin which has been strained and is more fruity flavored. u can generally use either oil when baking but becareful because u may have a heavier cake when using regular olive oil. i generally use just extra virgin it works good in almost everything...
Olive oil is fine for cooking. Extra Virgin is best for things uncooked, like salad dressings. You get a fruitier flavor for dressings that is destroyed by heating.
the various oils as they squeeze the press

1st virgin 2nd extra 3 extra extra

Hype...!! olive oil is over rated and over priced.
the only difference is that the extra virgin olive oil has more volume

so it doesnt really make a difference if u use it or not
