How can you tell if olive oil is spoiled? Can old olive oil be harmful?

The ';Best by'; date is expired, but the oil seems to smell ok, and in small quantities tastes great, but I tasted about 1/2 a teaspoon, and it leaves a slightly ';spicy'; aftertaste.How can you tell if olive oil is spoiled? Can old olive oil be harmful?
the oil will break down and it will start to look cloudy if it is going bad .................How can you tell if olive oil is spoiled? Can old olive oil be harmful?
It's rancid.





If in doubt, throw it out.... It should smell nasty... like old fry oil.
If it's clear and it doesn't smell bad or taste strong it should be okay.
*** when it gets old you'll DEFINATELY know it. have you ever smelled RANCID oil? it's an awful smell and it tastes much the same as it smells. honestly, i never knew what rancid oil was like until the first time i had oil go rancid on me...trust me, u just KNOW. as far as it being harmful...just to your senses and if you eat it you'll most likely repeat it all night.

I would not use it if it is mre than a month past the date.
