What is the difference between Imported Olive Oil and Imported Cold Pressed Olive Oil?

I have a recipe that calls for cold pressed olive oil and I didn't see any that said ';cold pressed'; in the store, is there a big difference? I hope this isn't a dumb question. I have just recently tried to start finding more healthful oils and I think I'm clueless.

ThanksWhat is the difference between Imported Olive Oil and Imported Cold Pressed Olive Oil?
Almost all Extra Virgin olive oil is cold pressed. You should see it right on the label (it's sometimes in smaller print, beneath the place that states ';extra virgin';). This is the first press of the olive, and is done without heat.

Extra virgin olive oil is the most pure oil, has no additives, and is the most unrefined. It also has the most flavor. What is the difference between Imported Olive Oil and Imported Cold Pressed Olive Oil?
Extra Virgin olive oil is an olive oil that has an acidity level less than 1% and it has to be cold pressed to carry that label. That means that no heat could be added during the extraction of the oil. You should go to a specialty store and get an estate bottled extra virgin olive oil, they have so much more flavor than grocery store bought ones.... you should use the best quality you can afford.

What if i dont have olive oil for potato?

I dont have olive oil to make my potato in the oven. Can i use vegetable oil? What if i dont have olive oil for potato?
Yes, you can. Olive is way better for you, though. I'm sure you knew that. What if i dont have olive oil for potato?
Olive oil is the most healthiest oil
Use butter. its delish
yes, they serve the same purpose. just differnt in health, and not much taste difference to the average taste buds
you do not need it
yes
yeah?
try putting some garlic cloves in the potato, and then applying the vegetable oil. it makes tummys happy!!!!
I never use oil to bake my potato in the oven.

If you are looking to make a baked potato, just slice 1/2 way through the potato ~ add a little butter in the center if you like, wrap it w/ foil and bake. :)

You can make a baked potato in the microwave much faster. Just put a potato in a bowl with a little water in it - cover w/ pastic wrap bake about 5 minutes and wah-lah! :)
yes u can use vegetable oil and butter i've never used olive oil at all
Yes
oil is oil......yes you can
you don't need oil!
yes
Try 10w30
Yeah, it'll work just as well
yeah that would work the same
Yes. You may even use butter. As long as it isn't coated to heavily. Also it depends on if you wrap your potato also. If you do, butter would work best, if not wrapping use the oil. Any oil should work, you could even use a lard or Crisco.

  • Why does Olive Oil cost so much?

I have been using more Olive Oil in my cooking lately, but it costs about 20 dollars a gallon or so where as Canola Oil costs about 2 dollars for the same amount, I just want to know what the deal is?Why does Olive Oil cost so much?
olive oil releases very little oil uopn crushing so it takes more oilves to release a gallon of olve oil than it does canola. also don`t forget the best oilve oil is from italy so it is imported and expensive and then there is cost of labour involved. Why does Olive Oil cost so much?
you try squeezing the olives to get them out! But, seriously the good stuff is labor intensive and the product is not as abundant as other oil sources. Then there is the import costs so you pay more when you eat healthy.
Because so many poor olives must give their lives for YOUR recipe!

Canolas die a natural death first.
Law of supply and demand. Right now it's much in demand and the bulk of the supply is Mediterranean - Italy, Spain, etc.
The cost to make olive oil is much more bigger than canola, Olive oil is associated with fine cusine, but I doubt you'd be paying that premium.
Well one thing for sure is that it is alot healthier for you than most oils. Extra Virgin Olive Oil is even more expensive but is very healthy! Healthy living can get very costly!!

I like putting extra virgin olive oil on my sandwiches. Does it make a difference what brand it is?

Or is the generic brand just as good as a name brand? If it makes a difference, which is the best brand to buy?I like putting extra virgin olive oil on my sandwiches. Does it make a difference what brand it is?
Just look for a dark oil. Spanish, Greek or Italian oils are generally pretty dark. Check to see if it'sold pressed, as heat breaks down the quality of th oil. Colivita is a realitively inexpensive EV oil but has a wonderful flavor. Store your oil in a cool dry place, not cold and keep it away from the light.I like putting extra virgin olive oil on my sandwiches. Does it make a difference what brand it is?
    Bertoli is the BEST!
I have found that you get what you pay for. If you are using olive oil for frying or adding it (for god knows what reason) to boiling water the quality can be a little lower and you can use the store brand. If it is the star of your dish, for example: You want to use it to dress something like a soup, salad, or sandwich you may want to go with a better quality olive oil. Either way...let your taste buds do the talking here. If you like store brand by all means use that! :)
    no
I am sure that the fresher the better, like if you got it from an olive grower's shop. But otherwise I think they are all pretty expensive and all about the same :)
The brand shouldn't make a difference you want to read the label to see if it's pressed or not. Pressed EVOO is better quality.

How to cook chicken with olive oil and garlic?

I had some really good chicken awhile ago and I think the only ingredients were olive oil and garlic. How should I use these ingredients to make a simple chicken dish? How to cook chicken with olive oil and garlic?
You could try chicken kiev. It's one of, if not the best chicken dishes I have eaten and I've eaten a lot. So delicious.

It's chicken breast stuffed with garlic butter. It's not olive oil and it's more fattening but it tastes a whole lot better.

If you want something easy, heat a few tablespoons olive oil in a pan with a few garlic cloves. Heat very gently or the garlic will burn. This will infuse the garlic flavour into the oil. Remove garlic after 5 minutes and turn the heat to moderate. Add seasoned skinless chicken breast or thighs and cook. Salt, pepper and thyme will work.

You can also buy garlic oil if you want to save time. It's probably costly though. Mine was, but it tastes amazing. How to cook chicken with olive oil and garlic?
CHICKEN WITH OLIVE OIL %26amp; GARLIC

    1 (2 1/2 - 3 lb.) fryer, cut up

    1/2 c. olive oil

    6 cloves garlic, coarsely chopped

    Juice of 1 lemon

    Salt %26amp; pepper to taste

    3 tbsp. parsley, chopped

    Wash chicken and pat dry.

Pour olive oil in a 9';x12'; pan.

Place chicken pieces in pan and turn to coat oil on all sides.

Sprinkle salt and pepper on chicken.

Sprinkle garlic, parsley and lemon juice over all.

Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes to 1 hour, basting every 15 minutes, or until chicken is tender.
Put olive oil in a saute pan. Add salt and pepper to chicken. Once the oil is warm, add chopped garlic and the chicken. Let the chicken brown on both sides and continue to cook until the chicken is completely done. Be sure to not brown garlic, because it gets bitter. You could serve the chicken and the sauce over some pasta. A fresh squeeze of lemon might be good, as well.

You could also try adding oil and garlic to a baking dish and bake the chicken.
There is a recipe called 40 clove chicken that I want to adapt. It uses 40 cloves of garlic in a clay cooker. I usually just braise my chicken in olive oil and add a teaspoon of garlic or so.

What kind or type of Olive oil is sweet and good for dunking bread?

I had it once in an Italian restaurant and forgot to ask. What kind or type of Olive oil is sweet and good for dunking bread?
    Extra virgin

you can add other things too.

My Italian grandmother and arguably the best cook in the world adds dried oregano along with some garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Add whatever dried herbs and spices you like! What kind or type of Olive oil is sweet and good for dunking bread?
Extra virgin. They may have put some Balsamic vinegar into the dish with the olive oil for dipping. It won't mix together, but you put your bread into both and the Balsamic vinegar is sweet

What regulations and papers do I have to make sure to have and were and how should I sell it? It is highest quality olive oil directly from Italy, so it will be imported. How do I go about selling highest quality olive oil from Italy in the States?
    There are two issues:

    1. Customs: Any shipment (air or boat) of products for sale over $2000 (in some cases $250) is subject to duties that you must pay for each shipment ( a form of tax) the government agency responsible for this is U.S. Customs and Border Protection, or CBP.

    2. FDA: Cooking oil is a consumable and made from a plant and is subject to the Food and Drug Administration. When your consumable comes to the US it will definitely be inspected by FDA as an imported food consumable so the packaging, and processing must be to FDA standards or your product may not be allowed into the country. You may need to provide information relating to the manufacture and processing of the product in the host country and any testing that was performedHow do I go about selling highest quality olive oil from Italy in the States?

    SPOTLIGHT ON GREEK OIL

    By Janice Cole, Food Editor

If you think you鈥檝e never tasted Greek olive oil, think again. Much of what鈥檚 packaged in Italy and other countries is actually olive oil that was purchased from Greece.

Greeks produce more extra-virgin olive oil than any other country. That oil is used to improve the quality and taste of olive oil blended in other countries. Recently, the Greeks decided they鈥檇 like to market more of their own oils, so you should soon be seeing more Greek-origin olive oil in stores.

Greek olive oil is pure olive juice; there are no added chemicals or extra components. Because of its natural low acidity, 80 percent of the oil produced in Greece is graded extra-virgin. (Extra-virgin olive oil is either cold-pressed or comes from the first pressing of the olives. It usually has the most pronounced and complex flavors and it鈥檚 low in acid; 0.8 percent acidity is considered extra-virgin, and most of the Greek oil is less than 0.1 percent acidity.) Greek olive oil tends to be more balanced in fruity, bitter and spicy tastes compared to other olive oils.

Look for these top Greek brands: Mani, Lapis, Iliada, Xenia Krinos, Morea, Altis and Phileos, a new brand that will be available soon.
sounds like the Customs broker for olive oil. check the cbp.gov site
There are many markets that have Italian olive oil imported from Italy.First thing you need to do is get a business license then you need a place of business a building that is set up with the right heath standards. After that you need to have a heath inspection if you pass they will give you a license to sale food. But thee is much more to do if you call your local City hall they will point you in the right direction. ( BEFORE YOU DO ALL THIS YOU NEED TO FIND A VENDOR LIKE SYSCO FOODS OR U.S FOOD SERVICE THAT WILL IMPORT THE PRODUCT OF YOUR CHOICE AND THEN YOU ORDER FROM THEM AND PAY THEM)
You can hire an agent to take care of the paperwork an shipment for you. My friend imports children's clothing and employs an importer to do it for her. It is very complicated and things go wrong at cusoms that the average Joe would not even think of, it is your agent's job to sort all that out. As for selling it, it would depend on what kind of volume you are talking. Try to get a famous chef to patronize your oil and you are made.
    Revolutionary

    Thanks.

You might be interested to know that much of the Olive Oil sold in the USA as Italian Olive Oil actually comes from Greece. You might want to check out price and quality from Greece and also Spain.

Just because it say Italy on the label doesn't necessarily mean it was produced in Italy.

    I Cr 13;8a

California produces a lot of Olive Oil but its quite expensive. So you can probably offer Olive Oil from Europe at a substantial savings.

Olive Oil has mono-unsturated fat so its very very good for the heart.
I agree totally with KitKat. It would also save you a lot of money.
Actually, lots of olive oil is imported from the middle east- Israel and Palestine -

to answer the question- it would be in your best interest to locate a Customs House Broker/Frieght Forwarder in your area or a port nearest your city and have them do all the work. it's fairly inexpensive and saves you all the hassles of working directly with US customs
simply e-mail the Company and place an order. it's a food product , they will tell you what you need to know
There's no olive oil in USA ??

If you want i can send to you from portugal
Please don't listen to everybody that says that there are already lots of olive oil brands in the US. There are only so few that taste as good as fresh olive oil in the Mediterranean countries. The US laws have so many loopholes when it comes to certifying something as olive oil. A blend of oils that only has a small percentage of olive oil can be marketed as 100% pure virgin olive oil in the US. It's true! Check the bottles. Not to mention that the US does not require that an olive oil container lists the acidity of the oil. The olive oil market is the US is still immature.

I'm sorry I don't have a real answer to your question except what has already been said (basically lots of paperwork and FDA approval), but PLEASE don't listen to people that try to put you down. The US needs to taste good olive oil.

You'll probably have a good chance of selling it at a cheaper price than the domestic oils. The production of olive oil in the US is expensive because of the lack of olive presses, high transportation costs to the presses, and high labor costs. The industry in the Mediterranean is more mature and that tends to push the costs down.

    Good luck!!
I don't know what part of the country you are from, but here in NY there are many imported Italian brands of olive oil. Before contacting a manufacturer in Italy I would try to contact a distributor of olive oil in the states. May be you can apply for a dealership with Gem or Calovita or Bertolli oils (tel# (800) 908-9789. You also can reach Bertolli at Bertolli.com.
Aside from the import licesne and doing business overseas, there are loads of DOMESTIC olive oils (especially from California) that could directly challenge you.

The city of Copperopolis makes a very grand caliber of Olive Oil, so you need to stand free and clear of the competition
Save yourself a lot of money and contact Frank Granato Importing. They are located in Salt Lake City. They carry an INCREDIBLE line of Italian products including numerous olive oils. 1391 South 300 West, SLC UT 84115 Phone # 801-4865643. No web site yet they can be thoroughly researched by simply typing in their name. Ciao!
You would need to get hold of a distributor. Honestly though, there are hundreds of Olive oils imported from Italy in stores already.
your problem is not importing, get a booklet from customs, you'll have to pay 20% duty, you'll need a customs broker. transport will cost a lot depending on what method you use. really, something like olive oil will need to be shipped in a container ship, it'll take a month or more to get here and a week to clear customs. then you move it from your broker's warehouse to your own.

the real problem i see here is marketing. that will be rough. as others have said, there is a glut of good olive oil in america. i buy a very good first pressing extra virgin from the local dollar store, $2 a litre. if you want volume sales then you will need a lot, so consider that in initial cost, transportation, customs duties and associated fees, and storage and shipping to distributors. if you go for high end luxury product market then you will need high end packaging and lots of marketing to small outlets, as well as associated costs (storage and transport).

not a business for the amateur, and amateur you are or you would know these things. want to get into import, start with something simple. good luck though.
There are dozens of brands of olive oil, from Italy and other countries, readily available in any American grocery store. Why bother importing another one, when excellent brands are already available?
I think the Corleone family sold its olive oil buisness to some other New York family when Michael moved them out to Las Vegas.
    dont no...sorry
Who do you think you are ? The Godfather. oh, The Godmother ?

I don't know, but good luck.
Make sure you include me on your clients list.
You will have a lot of competition. Go into any supermarket in the USA and you will find several brands of imported olive oil on the shelves. Good luck.
I'm sire if you go to www.ask.com you could find import laws, but there are so many brands of Olive oil already that it might not sell too well. Extra Virgin olive oil is the best you can get and even Walmart has about 10 different brands of it.

  • When should you NOT use olive oil?

and what types are better for what types of cooking? When should you NOT use olive oil?
I wouldn't use olive oil in cakes and Canola Oil is really good for cooking most foods.

Here is a website that breaks down each oil and its purpose for you =)When should you NOT use olive oil?
High Temp cooking. Olive Oil smokes at lower temps than most.

The better quality of the olive oil, the less you want to do with it. If it's really good, use it for breads or veggies. The best kinds to use are Cold Pressed and stay away from ';Pure Olive oil'; because it's really just regular extra virgin.

    Don't use it in baking.

Use it for savory foods or light Mediterranean dishes.
    Try canola, healthy, less $$$$.
    Not always good for frying.
    for frying eggs
I won't use olive oil in most cakes, or anything in which I don't want the flavor or the oil to clash with the flavor of the food. Then I usually use canola oil. Or when I want a different flavor to come through, like when I do Chinese...I use Peanut. Or Sesame.
Cheap olive oil SUX...Save your money and use canola or peanut oils for High temp or every day frying/saute'ing...and drizzle on the good stuff, extra virgin olive oil afterwards for the flavor when desired.
i've heard that you shouldn't use it when making desserts (brownies and stuff) because it alters the taste really bad
generally not good for frying or cooking at high temps. olive oil does not have a high flash point and burns at higher temps. in which case canola is better.
If you want a certain flavour in your food, especially in things like salads where the oil in the dressing comes thorugh very strongly.

For stir frys, try groundnut oil or other types of nut oils like walnut oil and almond oil.

Similarly for salads, go with different nut oils, or try flavoured variants of olive oil (ie, rosemary olive oil or lemon olive oil).

However, I use extra virgin olive oil for just about everything...
olive oil while it has many good uses does have downfalls... It burns off much faster than other oils. Olive oil is good to use to flavor so think of it more as a spice than a cooking lubricant.

Def. not good for deep frying anything or anything that needs to be flash fried or cooked at a very high temp.
I never use olive oil to cook.

Peanut oil is best to fry, it's more resistant to heat.

What do they put inside olive oil bottles?

I have seen many restaurants that put some king of herbs inside olive oil bottles... what do they put there? What do they put inside olive oil bottles?
rosemary and thymeWhat do they put inside olive oil bottles?
Olive oil and king of herbs
    Olive oil and herbs...
Most likely rosemary. If you wanted to make them at home, you could use virtually any herb, many citrus fruits, and garlic cloves.
Yes da KING of herbs rosemary . Sometimes thyme or garlic also
You can add any herb you like to your olive oil or corn oil and leave it inside the bottle. it will add flavor to the oil.

You can use rosemary, garlic, powdered pepper, basil anything you like, mint, ginger.... curry....or any mix of herb/species of your choice. (ready to use mixes or just adding herbs or spices or both , that you like into the oil)

A good tip is cooking peeled garlics in hot oil (not boiling) until tender (may be 45-60mins) (no need to add salt or anything else), then u let the preparation cool and put it in an airtight container like a glass jar and keep it in your fridge (for longer lifetime). you can use your candied garlics to season meats (roasted, grilled....) or make a sauce with garlics (when cooked, garlics become sweeter and they are softer. This is especially good for people who like garlic but they feel sick after eating garlic seasoned meals. In this way they will digest the garlic perfectly. Then you can use the oil to season your salads or any other dish of your choice.

Another way of making garlic tastier and sweeter is by wrapping a garlic head into an aliminium foil and cooking it until tender. (u dont need to cook this specially, you can do this when using your oven for cooking some meat or pie or whatever).

When it is done, open the aluminium foil and press the garlic with your hands or a fork and you will obtain a wonderful mashed garlic. you can store it in an airtight container in your fridge for couple of weeks, and use it to season your sauces, or any other dish of your preference. You dont need to peel the garlic before cooking.
    Herbs,spices and oil!!!!!!
Olive oil thyme and Rosemary and other herbs.

What's the difference between regular olive oil and extra virgin olive oil?

I've always been curious...What's the difference between regular olive oil and extra virgin olive oil?
Extra Virgin is from the first pressing of the olives and is usually cold-pressed. The subsequent pressings of the same pulp may be heated to extract more of the oil and the quality (flavour %26amp; appropriate usage) just isn't the same.

How do you choose a good extra virgin olive oil?

When the recipes calls for a good evoo how do you know which brand to buy without being able to taste it first? Go for the most expensive? Have noticed quite a difference in pricing on evoo. Is spanish better than italian? How do you choose a good extra virgin olive oil?
When I switched over to using EVOO , I asked around, and watched some cooking shows to see what they used. I also checked some cooking shows web sites to see if they suggested any. I ended up choosing Bertolli EVOO. I liked the taste and the price was better than most. Some of the cheaper brands tasted just that 'cheap'.

Hope this helps. How do you choose a good extra virgin olive oil?
For extra virgin, make sure no one else touched it before you. No Im just playing IDK:0
Good question! There are so many brands out there- it is hard to know what is really good and what your tastes will like. Consumer Reports did a rating on evoo's awhile back and I did not care for the taste of their #2 pick at all. You could look for ones that have won awards, or ask the Yahoo Answers community which ones are their faves. I like the Tuscan style the best. Costco carries a toscano evoo that I like and even their Kirkland Signature is not bad, although I use it for cooking mainly. Price is probably a good indicator, but that doesn't always mean that the best ones cost the most!
I tend to not worry about anything other than the fact that it is ';extra virgin'; which has to do with the process rather than it's country of origin. I buy my evoo at Trader Joes at bargain basement price since I use a lot of it. Olive oil is an undertone in most recipes, so as long as it's of reasonably high quality with no nasty aftertaste, most people can't make the distinction between a good or great oil. And taste is subjective anyway. If you really want to explore the differences in flavor, have a dipping party. Buy 3 or 4 different olive oils, season them equally, and have a bread dipping party with your friends and compare notes. Kind of like a wine tasting.
    I choose organic
    See the magic of marketing.

you splashing it on salad Or cooking

YOU just might be able to taste the oil if the vinegar is not too strong.

    Your choice.

  • How to make a lemony salad dressing using olive oil?

I want to make a light, lemony salad dressing that isn't sour.

How do I mellow out the lemon and make a nice, smooth dressing?

How to make a lemony salad dressing using olive oil?
    Q%26amp;E Lemony Salad Dressing

    2/3 C. olive oil

    1/3 C. lemon juice

    2 tsp. sugar

    1 tsp. salt

    1/4 tsp. pepper

In a jar with a tight fitting lid combine all of the ingredients

Shake well. Refrigerate. Chill to blend flavors

    ----------------

here is another one that is a light summer, lemon dressing...it doesn't have oil in it though, but it is tasty...

    LEMON VINAIGRETTE

    Makes 5 cups

    3 cups Whole-egg mayonnaise

    2 cups Lemonade concentrate

    2 1/2 Tbsp. Dijon mustard

    Sugar to taste

Combine ingredients and whisk until smooth. Season to taste with sugar.

Hope this helps! =)How to make a lemony salad dressing using olive oil?
    Lemon Vinaigrette:

    1/4 cup fresh lemon juice

1/4 cup lightly packed fresh Italian parsley leaves

    2 cloves garlic

2 teaspoons finely grated lemon zest

    1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

    1/3 cup extra-virgin olive oil

Blend the lemon juice, parsley, garlic, lemon zest, salt, and pepper in a blender. With the machine running, gradually blend in the oil. Season the vinaigrette, to taste, with more salt and pepper.
Are you using lemon juice? Is that why it's sour? Try using lemon zest and only a touch of juice. There is a lot of flavor in the zest.

Or you can take the rind off the lemon, and infuse the flavor into your olive oil by heating it (just like making garlic oil), and then using that in place of regular EVOO. I would use mild oil, it's much smoother flavor works quite well with lemon, and doesn't over power the lemon flavor - or any other flavor for that matter.
    Combine:

    1/2 c. olive oil

    1/4 c. apple cider vinegar

salt, pepper, lemon zest (grating the rind of a lemon)

    sample and set aside.

    In A Saucepan:

Boil 1 c. water with 2 Tbl sugar.

Adjust salad dressing 1 tsp at a time until you get the

    smoothness.
    Here is one way from:

    http://www.cooks.com/rec/view/0,1915,144…

3 tbsp. mayonnaise or salad dressing

    2 tbsp. Dijon mustard

    2 tbsp. lemon juice

2 tsp. snipped fresh dill or 1/2 tsp. dried dill

Mix ingredients and brush on meat 1 minute before removing from grill.

Try this one... juice of 1/2 lemon (1 Tbsp.), 1/2 Tbsp. red wine vinegar, 1 tsp. honey, pinch of onion %26amp; / or garlic powder, salt, pepper...whisk in 2 to 3 Tbsp. good olive oil to blend. Greek style dressing.
I just toss my salad in a little olive oil and squeeze the lemon on top and toss again, I sometimes add a little vinegar, salt and pepper, even some garlic powder is a nice suttle change now and then.
Have you heard of sweet and sour? if you feel your salad dressing is too sour. Just add a little sugar water to it that will sweeten it up just enough for your liking. (sugar water is sugar in water)

How do i do this wholemeal with bread olive oil and garlic ?

Hi im trying to eat healthier and one of the recipes was wholemeal bread with olive oil and garlic. The thing is do i by the bread with this on, or do i have to soak the bread in the garlic and olive oil if i do how do i do this ? Any advice would be good. How do i do this wholemeal with bread olive oil and garlic ?
    Try this.

Roast the garlic. Take whole heads of fresh garlic and slice just a little off the top to expose each clove. Dress with a touch of olive oil and roast on foil in a 350 degree oven for about 30 minutes or until the cloves are gooey and slightly bown. Remove and let cool. Break into individaul cloves but leave the paper skin on like little dispensers.

Pour highest quality extra virgin olive oil on a small plate. You can float a sprinkling of oregano, red pepper flakes, and/or a little grated parmesian cheese - whatever you have a taste for - on the oil for added flavor.

    Serving option 1:

Dip bite sized pieces of bread in the oil.

Squeeze the cooled garlic cloves on the bread like a spread.

    Enjoy them separately or together.

Serve before the meal alone or by side of an antipasto plate.

    Serving option 2:

Expose the top of a baggette of bread (small topedo shaped loaf) and dress with olive oil and the roasted garlic. Place in a 325 degree oven or under a broiler until warm and slightly toasted, but be careful not to let the garlic burn since burned garlic tastes bitter.

Slice and serve with the meal.

Caution: Be careful not to eat too much garlic, until you know your own or your spouses tolerance for it. Eat too much and it will seem like the oil is coming right out of the pores in your nose. Roasted garlic is sweet and mild, and you can eat far too much before you know it. I ate 4 roasted heads once on a dare and spent 3 days sleeping on the sofa. How do i do this wholemeal with bread olive oil and garlic ?
    i dunno????
Buy ciabatta, or similar. Crush a clove of garlic in 2tbsp olive oil. Spread on bread. Heat bread in oven at 170 for 6 minutes.
Toast the bread in the oven until golden then slice.

While it is doing that put garlic into the olive oil and stir.

When bread is done use the garlic sauce as a dip.
just have a bite of your bread then some garlic and pour the olive oil in your mouth couldnt be easier
Drizzle the oil on a plate and add a little garlic and maybe even some balsalmic vinegar..then just dip your bread in it..Delish!
soak the bread in the garlic and oil utnil it chages coulor then leave to stand
Yes, use some garlic and olive oil for about 15 minutes.
You can either make your own bread mix and simply add the olive oil (make sure you buy a peppery oil as this will bring the taste out more.

As for the garlic simply chop and add to the bread mixture. Make sure the garlic is in the bread as oppose to be on top of the loaf as this will burn when cooked and gives a bitter taste.

You could also make another batch of bread simply by adding a handfull of kernals, nuts ect.

    Happy Cooking

Will frying in vegetable oil give me crunchier potatos than olive oil?

I'm not deep frying, just pan frying sliced potatos. I'd like to use olive oil because it's healthier, but my husband likes them really crisp and crunchy. Will vegetable oil give me better results than olive oil? Will frying in vegetable oil give me crunchier potatos than olive oil?
Olive has a much lower smoke point then vegetable oil. I prefer corn oil because it has a better flavor then other oils. The absolute best is to use lard, good old animal fat. Heat it about 375 degrees and it will make some great crispy potato's. Not something you want to do every night. Will frying in vegetable oil give me crunchier potatos than olive oil?
I prefer to fry potatoes in canola oil, I prefer Wesson brand to others. Nice light taste and they get crispy if you don't over fill the pan/skillet.
if you cook too hot with olive oil it will burn, use peanut oil for deep frying.
I pan fry with olive oil, too. You have to be careful though because it burns at a lower temperature than veggie oil. You just have to watch it and make sure it's not burning. Then the middle of the potato slices will be mushy and the outside will be charred. You can also try I Can't Believe It's Not Butter Mediterannean Spread. It is made with olive oil, and I have heard it's not pad for frying.
Veg oil will work better - olive oil doesn't get hot enough.
i'm not sure, but i only use vegetable or canola oil when i want crispy potatoes. i use olive oil when i want to saute potatoes and i want them to get lightly browned.
I am a former chef and while there is not cooking difference, a taste difference, a olive oil like Gallo not Extra Virgin is fine, a lighter one.

It is expensive to use, a blend of canola and olive is fine, it is not the best for cooking as it saturated more not in bad fat but good fat mono-unsaturated.

How do i use olive oil on my face for dry skin?

The skin on my face is extremely dry and i have dry patches on my cheeks and around my nose and mouth! I've tried exfoliators, moisturizers and almost everything else!! Can someone please explain to me how i can use olive oil on my face? How do i use olive oil on my face for dry skin?
i wouldn't suggest olive oil but viamin e cream or oil. i use cocoa butter cream on my face and sometimes vitamin e. I have also heard that vitamin c oil is also good. try the vitamon e oil first and see how that works for you. Drink plenty of water because that helps clean your pores and hydrates your skin. How do i use olive oil on my face for dry skin?
your doing right by drinking water as it hydrates your skin, but are you doing too much to your face all at once and it's drying it out? if so just get a hydrating skin cleanser like olay hydrate and cleanse and a moisturizer like olay hydrating moisturizer. if we do too much to our skin it will wrinkle early so just try to use products right for your skin type. and as the weather gets warmer skin care changes from dry to oily so you'll have to get oil free products then.
Yes ! olive oil is well if you make a mask with honey and olive oil, but try Argan oil, ';wonderful'; for very dry skin, you must drink much water, and don't forget your night cream
well you can use olive oil or baby oil for dry skin. but wash your face and don't dry your face.. always wash your face with cold water and take little oil on your plam and massage your face.. and let it be there for 5 to 10 min.. you don't want to do every day.. morelikely once a week.
As a skincare junkie!! I would suggest any product that has either vitamin c, or lavender essential oil. These are both very hydrating properties. I do not have dry skin however, my husband is extremely dry and he uses soothing cream from Source Vital. I buy it online since where I live we dont have anybody who sells it BUMMER I know. However, my mom uses Aveeno and that works great!!! I guess it is just based on what you are looking for and how much you wan to spend. I usually pay 11.00 plus shipping for the soothng cream and it last forever. Not sure why but my hubby loves it!! So you should try that or like I said anything with lavender or vitamin c!!!
first damp your face then apply one tea spoon of olive oil then massage it with the help of your finger in upward direction.

olive oil is really good. but use it at night and wash your face in the morning. you will never have wrinkles toooooooooooo.
You just rub a little bit on like you would baby oil. I like to use sweet almond oil on my face. It doesn't clog pores or have a strong smell like olive oil. Almond oil is used to treat eczema in traditional medicine. You can get it at most health food stores or online. It makes my skin softer than any moisturizer i have ever used (which is about everything there is!). Don't exfoliate with a scrub until the dry patches clear up or they will get worse. Gemini is right with drinking lots of water too!
In the winter when my skin is really dry this is what I do and I love the results! I put about tablespoon of olive oil in a small bowl and then pour salt in it. Enough to make a paste. I then rub it on my hands, face, or feet, anywhere I need to soften or moisturize or exfoliate. I usually do this right before I take a shower. Wash as usual and you will LOVE the way your skin feels!

What is the best way to get an olive oil stain off my microsuede couch?

I tried warm water and soap. The water dried and the oil spots were still there. Help! What is the best way to get an olive oil stain off my microsuede couch?
I would try an upholstery cleaner. I have used Folex on my microfiber couch and it works pretty well. You may need to call a professional cleaner, though, if the stain doesn't come out. I have heard good things about that. You could probably get your rugs done at the same time, too, if they need it.What is the best way to get an olive oil stain off my microsuede couch?
Invite friends over and get that bread you dip in olive oil, and say ';everybody dip'; till its gone.
    try bakin soda
    Re-apolster.
You can try using Dawn or other dishwashing liquid, it might be too late since you already cleaned it once. Can you flip the cushion over?
oil spots are a ********* to clean I know I have It all over the fire place and still I have yet to find something but for couches it's different I reckon and there are so many products out there but try a little vinegar since they don't mix well in a bottle they wouldn't I'd say on the couch and take baking soda for a scrub if needed.. D a m those good old fashioned remedies do work for some things but if you don't succeed then it may be time to take it to the upholsters shop. you definitely don't want to go crazy with the products it may ruin the area even more.
Try scrubbing it with gentle soap.
I find baby wipes take out just about everything.
    damn I think ur screwd

How would you make a bread dip with olive oil and garlic?

    Dip for Vegetables and Bread

    INGREDIENTS:

    3/4 cup olive oil

    6 tablespoons butter, room temperature

    12 anchovy fillets

6 large garlic cloves, crushed and minced

fresh vegetables, cut into bite-size pieces

1 large loaf crusty Italian or French bread, cut into 2'; slices

    PREPARATION:

Blend olive oil, butter, anchovies and garlic in food processor until smooth. Transfer oil mixture to heavy saucepan. Cook over low heat for about 15 minutes, stirring, occasionally. Season with salt and pepper. Pour sauce into a small crockpot or fondue pot. Set fondue pot over burner to keep warm, or set crockpot on LOW setting. Serve with assorted vegetables and bread. Vegetable ideas: red bell pepper slices, broccoli and cauliflower flowerets, sugar snap peas, carrot sticks, green onions, zucchini sticks, etc..

    Makes 6 Servings
Wrong choice, at least in my opinion. A better one is olive oil %26amp; Balsamic vinegar, you just pour it in a shallow saucer as they do not mix, so the bread goes though both layers, -you can chose how much of each you pick up if you watch what you are doing.
    Olive oil

    Coarse black pepper

    oregano %26amp; basil

    crushed garlic

    Mix it all together, yummy
Since you have access to the Internet, go to www.foodnetwork.com and check out Chef Emeril's page. He did just that dip not long ago on his t.v. program, and it's archived on his page. There's a trick to how you add the oil to keep the dip from breaking and Emeril will show ya how...
saute crushed garlic in olive oil, cool and strain out garlic
If you mean like what you would get at a restaurant, then heat the oil in a pan and put however much garlic you want in the pan to brown it. This will make the oil tastier, then once it has cooled alittle put it in a plate and season with salt, pepper (fresh ground if you have it) and basil.
Either 'crush' your garlic or 'chop it fine' and then put it into a container with your olive oil ... and COVER IT TIGHTLY and let it 'sit' somewhere for at least a full day and night before you use it ... that way the 'garlic' will 'infuse' into the oil and 'flavor it' ... and it is really 'very good' with a nice 'crusty artisan bread' instead of 'butter' ... and is 'much better' for you because it has no 'bad fat' only the 'good fat' ... and you use much less, too ... I'd have it with some 'spaghetti' with meat sauce ... YUM!
like at the italian restraunt poor oil in saucer then add a little garlic and some pepper and vwala
Get some olive oil, garlic salt, and a touch of vinegar.
Take some high quality olive oil (extra virgin), pour it onto a plate, add some minced garlic to it. The amount you add will per your love of garlic.

Take some crusty bread like a baguette, slice or tear into pieces - dip it in the oil/garlic mixture. Eat.

Ways to doctor this up any or all of the following enhance it -

Add some crushed red pepper (like you put on pizza).

Add some fresh grated Parmesan cheese

    Add some balsamic vinegar

Add various herbs like dried Italian seasoning.
Warm Olive oil and garlic dip 1/2 cup olive oil

    1 tablespoon butter

    2 cloves garlic, minced

    1 tablespoon fresh chives, chopped

1 tablespoon fresh Italian parsley, chopped

    Fresh black pepper

    1 jar Whole Olives, drained

    6 slices country bread

In a small saucepan over medium heat, heat oil and butter until bubbly. Add garlic. Reduce heat to low and cook until garlic is fragrant; do not allow garlic to brown. and cook, stirring, for 2 minutes. Remove from heat; stir in chives and parsley. Season with pepper. Serve warm with olives and bread, for dipping.

    or

Press garlic, mix with Olive oil and balsamic vinegar, salt and pepper. Dip in the fresh bread.
Peel three cloves of garlic and put them into your bottle of olive oil. When it's dinnertime, pour a couple tablespoons of the oil on a small plate, sprinkle it with salt and pepper, then dip your bread into it. Delicious!

  • When I bake with Olive oil I get a lot of smoke?

I have a recipe for Bolema's. They require that you bake the filled roll in Olive oil, but everytime I bake them I get so much smoke and it does not matter what stove I use. Should I be using a certain type of Olive oil when I use it in the oven? When I bake with Olive oil I get a lot of smoke?
mix some veg oil with olive oil. When I bake with Olive oil I get a lot of smoke?
You are exceeding the smoking point of the olive oil.

First of all, get a cheap oven thermometer. Ovens are all calibrated a little differently, so the temp on the dial is not necessarily the temp of the oven. These thermometers are essential for baking, and would be helpful in this case as well.

Research the smoking point of olive oil. If it can't be used as high as 350 (conflicting info in your other answers) try peanut oil, or another oil with a higher smoking point.

Even though the recipe is written with olive oil, some recipe writers shamefully do not properly test their recipes before sending them out into the world.

If you keep trying, and use the excellent suggestions you've gotten in some of these answers, you'll be able to figure it out.

    Best wishes!
Smoke Point is related to free fatty acid content. Below is a table which shows this relationship for a typical cooking oil. Most people who are planning to deep fry with olive oil use a refined oil such as a pure or an ';extra light'; olive oil. See cooking considerations. The International Olive Oil Council states that olive oil has a smoke point of 210 degrees C (410 degrees F).

One of the main things to consider when evaluating whether it is OK to heat extra-virgin olive oil (or any other oil for that matter) is the smoke point of the oil. The smoke point is the temperature at which visible gaseous vapor from the heating of oil becomes evident. It is traditionally used as a marker for when decomposition of oil begins to take place. Since decomposition incurs chemical changes that may not only result in reduced flavor and nutritional value but also the generation of harmful cancer causing compounds (oxygen radicals) that are harmful to your health, it is important to not heat oil past its smoke point. Inhaling the vapors can also be damaging.

For a natural, very high-quality extra virgin olive oil, I believe the 200-250掳F range reflects the most likely upper limit for heating without excessive damage. In other words, this would allow the use of extra virgin olive oil for making sauces, but not for 350掳F baking or higher temperature cooking. It is best to add it to your dishes after they have been cooked to enjoy the wonderful flavor and nutritional value of olive oil.
Olive oil has a low smoke point which means it burns at a high temperature than other oils.

    Try peanut oil
All oils have different temperatures at which they will start to smoke. I'm note sure what Bolema's is, it would have been good to advise everyone what it is so we could recommend oils that would enhance the dish.

Avocado oil, Safflower oil and Almond oils are all VERY HIGH HEAT TOLERANT.

Safflower will leave the least amount of taste behind. Peanut oil is a good choice if your not allergic and has a smoke point of 350 which is 25 degrees higher than extra virgin olive oil and Sunflower oil could be a good choice as well since it is very flavor neutral.
It smokes because it's too hot.

Good quality olive oils will have a higher smoking point than cheaper ones. So use good olive oil.

Another tip is to add a liquid as well. That will prevent smoking (well, before it evaporates).
    substitute veg. oil its lighter
Olive oil doesn't go well in a dish that's cook for a long time try a substitute like canola oil
It shouldn't be smoking. I'm not sure how deep you need the oil but would an olive oil non-stick spray work (check the can before you buy)? Also don't use Extra Virgin Oilive Oil for cooking.. It loses it taste and should only be added to food after cooking.
That's odd. But I think your oven is maybe too hot. Olive oil is kinda heavy, so I would try turning down the temp a little and maybe switching to a lighter extra virgin olive oil instead of what you are using.
i use extra virgin, never had a problem

How can you tell if olive oil is spoiled? Can old olive oil be harmful?

The ';Best by'; date is expired, but the oil seems to smell ok, and in small quantities tastes great, but I tasted about 1/2 a teaspoon, and it leaves a slightly ';spicy'; aftertaste. How can you tell if olive oil is spoiled? Can old olive oil be harmful?
the oil will break down and it will start to look cloudy if it is going bad .................How can you tell if olive oil is spoiled? Can old olive oil be harmful?
    It's rancid.

If in doubt, throw it out.... It should smell nasty... like old fry oil.
If it's clear and it doesn't smell bad or taste strong it should be okay.
*** when it gets old you'll DEFINATELY know it. have you ever smelled RANCID oil? it's an awful smell and it tastes much the same as it smells. honestly, i never knew what rancid oil was like until the first time i had oil go rancid on me...trust me, u just KNOW. as far as it being harmful...just to your senses and if you eat it you'll most likely repeat it all night.
    1. trust your nose

    2. No it can't hurt you

    3. olive oil has the ability to last a really long time without going bad
I would not use it if it is mre than a month past the date.

What is the best olive oil to use as everyday cooking item that is not sooooooooo expensive?

I enjoy cooking gourmet cooking whever i can afford it .Its just that i cant find one that is satfied to plate yet. I have tried different ones but not to my satisfactions.Whenever i am watching the cooking shows they never tell you always what olive oil they or evooil they uses because i want my food to taste good also.I have tried several dishes so far and everyone that i have tried them on say they were good(the usually eat everything i make but in opinion my taste is a little different. my next question is why I can't find sherry wine vinrgar? I have tried sooooo many local stores but unable to find the item.of coarse i can go on line but that can be expensive to. now don';t get me wrong I have paid for expensive items but i just have to buy more than 1 or two before I can get right. I have a computer (HP) appro 3 yrs this is my 5th modern and prehaps i will be receiving my 6th on after tommorrow.why? do I have so many modern? I thought when I purchase my computer a one time is.What is the best olive oil to use as everyday cooking item that is not sooooooooo expensive?
I always use bertolli extra virgin.... it is just a safe bet.

as for the sherry wine vinegar..... try central market.... they are the only one that carries fresh juniper berries for when I make tenderloin. they should have it.What is the best olive oil to use as everyday cooking item that is not sooooooooo expensive?
In most cases you get what you pay for. If you stay with extra virgin olive oil it is a milder flavor. Extra Extra is even lighter in flavor. Bertoli is a good middle of the field price. The difference in the types of grading of the oil is how the oil is pressed from the olives. Extra Extra I believe is first cold press of the olive and filtered. Extra virgin is to be from the first cold press of the olive. Regular olive oil may be heated and pressed to get more oil from the olives. The area that the olives are grown will effect the taste.
actually, the only oil you should cook with that doesn't change in molecular structure when heated is organic virgin unrefined coconut oil, but if you prefer to use olive oil, you can buy extra virgin olive oil for about $7 at trader joe's if you have one in your area. it's really not that expensive. and you can get coconut oil for about $9 for a 16 oz jar at stores like wild oats or whole foods.

oh and the sherry wine vinegar, you should be able to get that at trader's too. they have most everything you need, except when it comes to spices or coconut oil. ;)
As to the olive oil. I buy it in the gallon cans and pour a bottles worth into an empty olive oil jar. It costs a little more up front, but it saves money in the long run. As to the sherry vinegar you should be able to get it at Trader Joes or any gourmet shop or on line.
As crazy as this sounds, we use the Walmart house brand of extra virgin olive oil. It rocks for every day use. We were pleasantly surprised.
I use extra virgin olive oil. i'm sure any brand will work but I use Bertolli brand. I get it at sams and it's $21. for 2 large bottles.
I always buy mine from Trader Joe's. There's always several varieties at a reasonable in cost. You should be able to find sherry wine vinegar at Trader Joe's also.

try using a really good surge protector that you can run your telephone or cable line through and then to the modem. it sounds like they keep burning out. also, when you go to install it, ground yourself to protect it from static electricity. make sure you use non-magnetic tools also.
I use unfiltered extra virgin olive oil , tastes better than the regular, I buy my gourmet oils and vinegars at TJ Maxx , they have great stuff and it is very cheap. Even cheaper than WalMart and sometimes you can find very expensive items for a fraction of the real price.
I confess to being an all-out rebel: I often buy the cheapest, darkest, fruitiest olive oil on the shelf ... usually in the Spanish imports section, with all the bottles of smashed olives for salad, and stuff .... it makes a zorchy spaghetti sauce and I slurp through dinner, vowing that someday I will be rich and can buy stuff that I will be proud of !!
I usually use a lower grade mixed 50/50 with canola when sauteing or frying, I'll also sometimes add a pat of butter. If it's a salad or raw food or I want the flavor of the olive oil reinforced at the end of cooking then I'll use the expensive stuff.

What will happen if you put olive oil or other oil in your hair and use straighting iron on it?

    Hi there,

I have a very dry hair and I'd like to find a way to straighten it without damage? What will happen if you put olive oil or other oil in your hair and use straighting iron on it?
I love olive oil. its one of the oils i always use in my hair and scalp. make sure its extra virgin or it simply will not do.

there is no way to 100% protect from direct heat damage but it is a great (and cheap ;)) protectantWhat will happen if you put olive oil or other oil in your hair and use straighting iron on it?
Get a heat protection cream. you need moisture in your hair. also a shampoo/ conditioner that is for dry damaged hair. Try Kerastase Bain Satin 3 and masquintense 3 for fine or thick hair, which ever you have. For product try Nectar Thermique. its a heat activated protection cream. Put it on before you blow dry and it will also protect from the heat of the flat iron

Is olive oil bad to use as a lubricant for ear stretching?

I started stretching (gauging) my ears today, and ended up getting a size too big. Somebody told me I'll be fine if I use olive oil as a lubricant.

I don't have any ky jelly or anything lying around, and they said olive oil is better than vaseline.

Does anybody know if this is true or not?Is olive oil bad to use as a lubricant for ear stretching?
You are NEVER better off skipping a size, always go to the next size up. And you should always use lubricant when you go to that size. Although many people, including me, go from 20g to 16g, or 18g to 14g and not have trouble, after that skipping sizes becomes incrementally more dangerous.

It's best to use something like jojoba, vitamin E oil, emu oil, or something meant for skin use. Olive oil will work in a pinch, just wipe off the excess and pick up some skin oil for future use.Is olive oil bad to use as a lubricant for ear stretching?
Yes it is fine... but olive oil tends to absorb faster so I don't know if it would lubricate as good as KY or Vaseline. But yeah it works, just use enough.

oh and if you think olive oil wont work can you suggest something else? How do i use olive oil on my face for dry skin?
Olive oil is a natural healer and moisturizer. For quickest results you massage it very thoroughly into skin on a daily basis. Massage for 1 or 2 min and you will see almost immediate results. It absorbs into skin does not leave face oily. Splash face with water and dab dry with tissues. You will not need any other moisturizer. Honey will not be as beneficial.

SOURCE(S): 20+ years research, experimentation using safe, natural treatments to cure many skin conditions. How do i use olive oil on my face for dry skin?
If using olive oil all you would have to do is smear it onto your face and leave it on while you are sleeping. Honey is another good moisterizer, smear it on and leave it for 15-20 minutes and then rinse off. A mashed up banana is also really good for dry skin, just mash it with a fork and put it on your face, leave it for about 20 minutes. Before bed each night put a think layer of moisterizer on your face (buy a proper night cream). Moisterizers alwayws work best when you sleep so give that a try. hope it helps :)

Here is a site that I would highly recommend. They have very high quality stain removal techniques. I would suggest repeating the process after the first application, and rinsing the rug out with cool water in between applications. Best of luck! How do I get olive oil out of my carpet?
why would you have olive oil over the carpet?
A steam carpet cleaner will work perfectly. You can rent them or hire a carpet cleaning company.
You would'nt believe what dish washing soap can do to oil..

Try and put the soap on the oil (no water) and scrub the carpet.leave it to rest half an hour, then scrub again and then use water to clean.

you can do the same on clothes especially with oil stains.. good luck

Take lemon slices sliced super thin put about half a lemons worth per 12oz oil seal let set 7days min can do same with fresh rosemary about 3-4 sprigs per 12oz and to save money mix your olive oil 50-50 with canola oil for making flavored oils its what is done in the kitchens of many restaurants good luck and keep on cookingHow can I infuse olive oil with some extra flavors at home?
Just add fresh herbs any kind you want to the olive oil and left in infuse for a few days. The flavor should be in the oil. This has worked for me and saved a lot of money too.
What I have done is put them in small or large bottles the close tightly, and i add herbs and spices of my choosing. it works really good for bread dipping oils and things.

The cake mix is just your typical duncan hines or betty crocker pre mixed cake mixCan I use olive oil or melted shortening in a cake mix rather then veggie oil?
Use 1 stick of butter or margarine instead of any oils. I use BlueBonnet. Good Luck! Can I use olive oil or melted shortening in a cake mix rather then veggie oil?
I don't think melted shortening will work, but I use olive oil because my mother doesn't buy vegetable oil. My bf insists I use veggie oil for brownie and cake mixes because he swears he can tell the difference in taste, but I think olive oil works perfectly fine and actually makes the cake a little moister. Just use regular olive oil, though, not extra virgin.
Technically you can substitute it with olive oil because it has almost the same consistency ,texture and body as with a vegtable oil. However, you must consider this: the flavor of olive oil ( be it virgin, extra virgin etc) is very strong and its mainly use for savory dishes ( Food that are normally for appetizers or main courses) if you do use it ,be reminded it just might have an odd taste in the end and it may taste like some kid threw chemicals in there....=) but hey what we like to eat or combine is still a matter of preference!
If your trying to make a little bit healthier cake, my mom uses this recipe: 1 box and 1/4 box cake mix; 1 can of sprite or 7-up; 4 eggs. That's it. No oil. Beat batter with a mixer until smooth, about 4 minutes. Cook it at a little bit lower temperature and until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean. Makes a really fluffy moist cake.
The taste of the olive oil would make it a bad choice. If you have applesause, you could use that as a substitute (and it's way healthier, too)...just use the same amount of applesauce as they call for in oil.
I would suggest the melted shortening, not the olive oil.

or you can substitute applesauce for the oil, makes it healthier too!.
Melted shortening, not so much. The olive oil would be better. Butter at room temperature would be the best. Duncan hines actually has a butter yellow cake mix, it is so good.
you definatly can use olive oil instead of vegetable oil and its better for you you can also use nut oil but i would never use melted shortning that would be icky
Use a vegetable oil rather than olive oil or shortening. Whats even better and lighter is to use apple sauce. You get the moisture plus the taste
not olive oil - it will flavor the cake:) ...... melted shortening or butter would be a better substitute, although canola oil would work too......
I've used olive oil before instead of veggie. The cake was nice and moist. I had no problems with it so you shouldn't either. Good luck
melted shortening might be better, but don't use olive oil. The taste would probably be too strong/savory for your cake. Unless you'd like that way.
Next time, you can also use mayo instead of oil. It keeps the cake very moist. ;)
shortening or applesauce works well. olive oil makes it dense

How can I incorporate olive oil into my diet?

I like the health benefits from olive oil and I like the taste, but I can't seem to think of any ways to incorporate it into my diet other than pouring some on a salad. Any suggestions? Thanks a lot!How can I incorporate olive oil into my diet?
Any time you have a sandwich, instead of using mayo or mustard, use a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil. People in Italy love the taste so they even use it on desserts. They will actually drizzle it over ice cream. You can alo find a recipe online for an olive oil cake. Basically anything you need oil for you can use the olive oil. Just remember that extra virgin will begin to smoke and break down at a lower temperature than most other oils so dont fry at high temps if you use extra virgin. How can I incorporate olive oil into my diet?
Use it to cook with also. On roasted veggies, or sauteeing stuff in it. You can even use it with a little balsalmic to dip bread in. There are pleanty of ways to incorporate it into your diet.
Saute anything in it. Make your own salad dressings. Make dipping sauce. I use it 90% of the time for cooking, just not baking, then I use canola. If it's not a bakery item, use olive oil.
you can fry anything in it.

You can put it on toast with some garlic and tomato. (willmake your breath smell but it's really nice)

I use a bit on any sort of savoury sandwich.

On pasta it's great, along with some oregano

You can actually put it directly onto your skin. IT's very good for skin cells apparently

Basically, you can add it to any sort of savory food.
Add vinegar to it and some salt and pepper makes a good dressing. Bake and cook with it. I only use Olive oil for all cooking. Only extra virgin for salads and dressings. I use pomus olive oil for cooking and deep frying.

It's not good for baking cakes and pastries.

Use vinegar and oil mix with chicken and bake. Season as needed. I like spicy.
You can put it on just about anything. You could pour some in your water before it boils for pasta, it could go on bread or almost anything you put in the oven to make it brown, etc. Just go to a cooking website and look up some more
What i like to do is get some real bread, not the soft wimpy kind, and a small bowl of olive oil. Add some spices like Cumin, Tumeric, pepper, basil or whatever suits your fancy. Dip the bread in the olive oil and eat.

I use tumeric because that's healthy for you.
cook with it. dont use extra virgin though because this will burn. anything you would normall shallow fry can be fried in olive oil
In the mornings i have soup, and i pour some on my soup. Or yo can get a slice of bread(french bread workd best for this) and eat it with olive oil.
Use it to cook your meats, example if you are sauteing chicken for a stir fry, use olive oil rather than veg or sesame oil. Use it in marinades, like mixing spices with vinegar and oil and putting beef chicken, veggies or pork in it. Basically any time you need oil to make something you can substitute olive oil. Well maybe not in cakes, not sure how that would taste but I think next time Imake one I'll try that.
make some pizza dough, theres lots of olive oil in that. cook with it whenever the recipe calls for another oil, like if your making a stir fry of some kind. you can also brush some on toast or a toasted bagel and then put some kind of spread on it.
drink a glass of it everyday
You can take a small amount of olive oil and mix it with grated cheese, and pepper, and you can dip italian or olive bread bread in it. If you make a nice spread of cheeses, wine, and maybe some fresh olives and vegetables, it's a good midday snack with a lot of health benefits. Not a huge lunch but equally as filling. The wine is also very good for your heart. If you're looking to go healthy, I also want to reccomend Lipton Green Tea w/ citrus. Very tasty and refreshing.

When do I use olive oil and pesto?

My cousin gave me pasta, olive oil, and pesto as part of my Xmas present and I have no idea when to use them when cooking. I usually just boil the noodles then add in marinara sauce after I drain the water. I'm obviously not a chef, so any help is greatly appreciated! When do I use olive oil and pesto?
Drain the water, then mix your pasta with pesto sauce only,no other sauce is needed. You can use pesto for lots of other things as well.Try spreading some on garlic bread, then topping it with mozzarella cheese. Also, don`t add oil to the cooking water because it will make your pasta sauce slide off.Use the olive oil any time you would use regular oil.Not for baking, though.Check www.foodnetwork.com or www.allrecipes.com or www.tammystimes.com/node for great ideas. When do I use olive oil and pesto?
pasta goes great with pesto. mmm you can use those together. Olive oil you can use to cook anything (like eggs or frying food).. or use it to cook potatoes in the oven...
pesto has olive oil in it , don't mix w/ marinara or any cheap canned sauce , use the olive oil for better dishes you might otherwise use el-cheapo type oil or grease in . pasta + pesto is good...put the pesto on top of your pasta-while it's on your plate
You can use a few drops of oil in the water to keep the pasta from sticking. You can also mix in some Italian seasonings into the oil in a dish %26amp; dip bread into it. Yes, drain your pasta %26amp; mix pesto as the sauce for it.
Mix it with some fettuccine and make a salad and have some bread.

  • Can I use Olive Oil for deep frying? Is this healthy (I mean as compared to using other cooking oil)?

I read somewhere that using Olive Oil at high temperature (like deep frying) may do more harm than good. What is real fact about this? Can I use Olive Oil for deep frying? Is this healthy (I mean as compared to using other cooking oil)?
The smoke point (the point at which oil begins to release smoke particles) can be as high as 410 degrees for olive oil which is marked as ';olive oil'; quality.

You can indeed use it as a deep frying oil. I do.Can I use Olive Oil for deep frying? Is this healthy (I mean as compared to using other cooking oil)?
Olive oil tends to burn at a high temperature so it isn't good for deep frying.
Olive oil has a low smoke point.... it will not take the heat well. It is used for pan frying and sauteeing but you can't deep fry. Use canola or saflower oil.
Sunflower oil or rapeseed oil are more healthier.
it burns use canola its light and has a higher burn temp ,,an olde army cook
Olive oil absorbs too much heat to fry with. You food will look OK, but it will have a badly burned taste.
olive oil has a relatively low heat point....which means it burns at high temp..I don't know that it's harmful...but it becomes bitter...to deep fry effectively...oil should be at least 350...use a lighter colored oil
No its not good but canola oil works great. It has less fat and so on.Give it a try.
i thought peanut oil is supposed to be good. im not sure though... lol sorry.
STUPID IDEAD DUMMY, YOUR SHOULD USE CABOLA OIL IT DOESNT BURN AT HIGHER TEMPERTURES.
no if you want healthy use peant oil it has a high smoke point ( it will last longer) and its not to expensive like olive oil would be.
olive oil has a lower flash point than manyother oils, burns quicker, not recommened for frying. Health wise its fine, just dangerous to fry with at high temps
Excessively heating olive oil will evaporate the alcohols and esters which make up its delicate taste and fragrance. Heating olive oil will not change its health aspects, only the flavor. Use a cheaper olive oil which doesn't have much flavor to begin with if you want to fry with it, add a more flavorful olive oil after cooking or at the table.
Olive oil has a low smoke point, which means it burns at a relatively low temperature. If your heart it set on it, use light or extra-light olive oil, but i wouldnt suggest it. Burnt olive oil tastes like sh*t and it will ruin your food.
I would not use olive oil for deep frying. If you want to use a healthy oil try canolla oil p-nut oil or safflower oil Those are 3 good oils to cook with....kitkatz06
We use it for stir frying, but not deep frying. It is still fattening, but is supposed to help keep the cholesterol manageable.

Need help fast...can I substitute olive oil for vegetable oil when making muffins from muffin mix?

would not be a good idea the muffins would taste like olive oil... you can substitute butter.. but if you have spread or margarine it would be better just melt it in microwave dish until you have the same amount that the recipe calls for ... hope this helps.... ohhh yeah spread works better because it contains more vegetable oil than margarine :)Need help fast...can I substitute olive oil for vegetable oil when making muffins from muffin mix?
You can use olive oil, EEVO, or other. It will change the flavor, however. If you are planning to use butter or margarine, melt it so you have a liquid measure. It will also change the flavor a bit, I prefer it.

If you are making fruit flavored muffins and will be using EEVO, add some lemon zest, if it is available. It will bring our the fruity flavors without overpowering them and cover up the flavor change of the EEVO.

If you are going to use real butter, the best type to use in baking is sweet butter, that is the unsalted kind, but either can be used.

Enjoy your muffins!Need help fast...can I substitute olive oil for vegetable oil when making muffins from muffin mix?
    Hi

It all depends on the oil/brand. All olive oils are not the same.

If it is a lite olive oil it should be alright.. If the olive oil you have isn't to strong smelling or tasting it you shouldn't have a problem.

Some olive oils have a very strong taste. I wouldn't use them.

    Good luck.
You should never use olive oil in any cake recipes. Do you have any Crisco that you could melt? You can also use melted butter with the same measurements called for if you were to use the oil. Good Luck
NO!!! do not do it it will not taste the same olive oil is meant for cooking in a pan not for baking olive oil is better for you but do not put it in your muffin mix
NO, NO, NO, NEVER, NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!

    THE RESULT WILL TASTE VILE!!!

If you don't have cooking oil, substitute butter or margarine, not olive oil.

    Doc
For the small amount you'll use, the difference in viscosity and taste should result in little difference.
Yes... it's healthier... you can even add equal parts of olive oil and apple sause for a healthier alternative
i have done it---i have also used peanut oil-----
as long as it's not e.v.o.o. (xtra virgin) that could make your muffins taste funny. not necisarily, but it COULD.
it will make them heavier like a muffin...use applesauce or any fruit pureed. even pumpkin will work.
I'm not sure, but i think its would be fine if you tried it.
    yes, better for you.

What's the best olive oil to use when cooking?

I don't want to spend more than $15 a bottle. Thanks. What's the best olive oil to use when cooking?
Bertoli EVO is very good (rated best by consumer report). DeCicco is also very good. What's the best olive oil to use when cooking?
Carbonell and Ybarra from Spain are good, as is Bertoli from Italy. For flavor you can mix olive oil and butter; it can get hotter that just butter without burning. Do not try to use Extra Virgin for frying, it smokes at too low a temperature.

    Good luck!
Always buy Extra Virgin. I use Bertolli's - made by an Italian company.
The best olive oil to use for cooking is virgin olive oil not extra virgin. The more virgin the olive oil the more expensive and flavorful it becomes. A good way to maintain the healthy cholesterol when cooking with olive oil is to toss the meat or veggies in it, throw it in the pan once it is hot. If the olive oil is heated in the pan and reaches its smoking temperature, it will lose its nutritional value.

Keep the extra virgin for salads and the cheap stuff for frying!
It's recommended that you do NOT use extra virgin olive oil for cooking, as it may burn easier. Save the ';good stuff'; for salad dressings, dipping, etc. Use a light olive oil to cook with....and it's cheaper than evoo
Just use plain olive oil (not extra-virgin). This is because heat destroys the distinctive olive flavor present in extra-virgin olive oil, so it is not worth cooking with it. Extra-virgin olive oil is best used raw in salads, pestos, spreads, etc. I usually buy a gallon size of olive oil and then just transfer it into a small plastic bottle for everyday use because it's cheaper.

    EDIT:

I just found this article on Yahoo and I think it might help you further: http://food.yahoo.com/blog/thegreentable鈥?/a>
I really like Colavita EVOO and so do all of the cooks in my family. It's reasonably priced and very good.

If you are a Costco member, try their Kirkland brand of Tuscan Olive oil. It is EXCELLENT and I think it runs about $12.00. It's nearly as good as some $40.00 bottles I've tasted.

Does olive oil come out of clothing?

I spilt some olive oil on my Abercrombie and Fitch shirt, it's a very small stain, about the the size of a thumb print. I know it's not much but I was just wondering if it will come out. It's a navy coloured shirt and 100% cotton, the stain is not really noticable but as long as I know it's there, it will bother me. Any tips on how to get it out would be great.Does olive oil come out of clothing?
You should be able to remove it with just a drop of washing up liquid immediately onto the stain. Dampen the material first, add the drop of liquid then use a clean damp cloth to rub from the outside of the stain into the middle. Rinse out immediately. Good luck.Does olive oil come out of clothing?
Dampen the area and rub some dish soap in to it. Dish soap can help dissolve grease/oils.
lt might but you may have to get a stain remover to get lt out
rub washing up liquid into stain, leave for 10 mins then wash on 40 degree wash. works for me.
Ha! I had the same thing happen to me yesterday.

Shout It Out ADVANCED, is what you want to get, spray it on and work it in, wash it and out it comes. The real deal. No I'm not some shill for the company just a satisfied user.

Should I use olive oil on my hair or buy hot oil for a weekly treatment?

Have you tried all the various ways of making your hair stronger, shinier and healthier. What is the best way? Also, what would be the best kind of food to eat?Should I use olive oil on my hair or buy hot oil for a weekly treatment?
I had really dry hair after dying it and straighting it, my hairdresser told me to put mayo in my hair for 15 minutes and wash it out. As weird as it was it actually worked very well and was way cheaper then a hot oil treatment.

  • How do I get olive oil off my gerbil's fur without giving it a bath?

I tried wiping him down a few times with diluted apple cider vinegar and it's not helping much. I let the thing run around the kitchen and apparently there was some spilled olive oil under the counter and he got it on him and when he went back in his cage, rolled around in sand and now he's just a greasy, muddy mess and looks miserable. He'll feel more miserable if I actually have to ';bathe'; him in water. How do I get olive oil off my gerbil's fur without giving it a bath?
olive oil and sand are harmless.

    no problem.

    the gerbil will clean itself.

it's a rodent. How do I get olive oil off my gerbil's fur without giving it a bath?
ever thought of shave off the fur??
I'm no gerbil expert, but you might try spot-cleaning him with a damp washcloth and a little Johnson %26amp; Johnson Baby Shampoo.
Chinchilla sand is recommended for (more sensitive) dwarf hamsters, I'd imagine it will do well for your gerbil.

You may need to give in and give him a bath anyway, with a (very) tiny amount of dish soap. Make sure he's completely rinsed. I've bathed my dwarf hamsters once after they managed to get into oil and they did fine. Make sure you dry him completely before putting him in his cage, and avoid getting soap and water on his face.
give it a dry bath in oatmeal.

the dry oatmeal soaks up the oil ... might take a few times.

    VINEGAR?? got croutons too?

    :-)) sounds good with garlic!

oil and vinegar make Italian dressing which has to be shaken when you pout it on a salad.
Well...they use Dawn to get oil out of duck's feathers and otter's fur-and I use it to get cooking oil out of my clothes, so if nothing else works, I would try that. I know he'll get cold, but I would try a spot first to see if it works, and then try to dry him off as best as possible, perhaps with a towel, and maybe a blow dryer-but set on a low speed, only warm-not high- and hold it about 2 feet away from him so that it's more like a gentle breeze that hits him.

I'm sure he's really uncomfortable, and I feel bad for the little guy.

This is for getting oil out of a dogs fur...

    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?鈥?/a>

This is for removing motor oil from it's fur, but you never know

    http://www.earthclinic.com/Pets/fur_cont鈥?/a>

    Good luck!

Edit: Dawn will work. It will lift the oil off his fur. Perhaps there isn't a way to get it out, without giving him a bath, except getting absorbed by chinchilla sand, with several dust baths, or just your gerbil cleaning itself over time. You could also try just wiping him with dry paper towels to try to absorb the oil. Honestly I feel sorry for the little guy, for being in a mess in general, and for having an owner that's inconsiderate and not very nice to people who are trying to help.

Can I substitute olive oil for vegetable oil in a cake mix recipe?

I wouldn't recommend it because olive oil tends to have too strong a flavor. It might be OK if you have the extra light olive oil though. If your oil has a lot of green color to it, I'd say definitely not.Can I substitute olive oil for vegetable oil in a cake mix recipe?
yesCan I substitute olive oil for vegetable oil in a cake mix recipe?
You can, but I think it tastes nastay! I think butter would be waayyy better!
Don't. Unless you want your dessert to taste like olives. Olive oil is too strong a flavour to be used in baking. If you don't have veg oil, sub melted butter or margarine instead.
if you do you must be tasteless
    sure, olives are a vegetable.
Olive oil is very healthy, but very strong in flavor. So, unless you want your cake to taste like olives, stick to regular vegetable oil.
No, I wouldn't. They have two different uses. You can, however, substitute the same amount of applesauce. Many people do this now to lower the fat in cake recipes. You can't tell the difference.
If it's a very light extra virgin, I've heard of people doing it. It's not my favorite way.
Yes, just make sure it's not extra-virgin olive oil as that leaves a strong taste.

Can I use Olive Oil to cook just as I use Canola Oil?

If I were to deepfry corn tortillas . . . can I use Olive Oil in the same manner? Or does it change or burn at certain temps? Can I use Olive Oil to cook just as I use Canola Oil?
You can use Olive oil but keep in mind Olive oil is expensive. If you want to use it I recommend virgin olive oil, it's purified more and will leave less of a oily taste. They do burn at slightly different temperatures but nothing noticiable. Can I use Olive Oil to cook just as I use Canola Oil?
    yes
sure but olive oil is very expensive! :)
Yea! My grandma does that all the time. She fries everything in olive oil. AND I don't notice a taste difference.
It really depends on the olive oil. Some have a higher smoke point than others. The more pure it is; the higher the smoke point (safer it is to use). If you really want to use it; I would recommend cutting it 50/50 with some Canola or vegetable oil to make sure you stay in a safe range. Gives you the flavor while making sure it can take the prolonged heat of deep frying.
yeah you can, I have done the exact same thing and it was really good, just make sure it is regular olive oil because I think extra virgin olive oil changes the taste or burns diferently!

    ohh and isn't OO halthier?!!
You could but the oil is so expensive. Also its flavors would be dissapated. Use peanut oil instead. Use Extra virgen olive oil for Italian cooking and dipping, and subing the extra light olive oil like bread or cakes in a recipe
Yea you can use it the same, it just might have a slight taste difference but nothing very noticeable.
    Yes.
pretty much, canola oil can handle higher temps than olive oil.
the taste is noticeable olive oil is allot heavier and will give the food a diff rent flavor but it might taste good

At what temperature does olive oil solidify?

This morning, when I went out to the kitchen, the olive oil looked funny (It was on the bench top, counter top for you from the US); I went over to look at it, and picked up the jar; and it's solid!! Lol. I knew it was cold last night, but I was just wondering at what temp olive oil solidified at, and if it would affect the taste or cooking properties at all?At what temperature does olive oil solidify?
Olive oil will solidify at 36潞F, but it will return to a liquid state as soon as the temperature rises. In colder weather, olive oil may turn cloudy, especially if the temperature of the storage area falls below 50潞F.At what temperature does olive oil solidify?
    32 degrees F

Does olive oil have a real flavor?

I keep hearing about how healthy olive oil is compared to others, but I hate olives and I am afraid that it will taste terrible! Does it have a real flavor?Does olive oil have a real flavor?
I also HATE olives. But I LOVE olive oil. To me, olives taste like rotten Doritos or something. Olive oil doesn't taste like that. You can definitely taste it, but it's a different flavor. If you've ever had Italian food, you've had olive oil (maybe without even knowing it). It's very popular in Italian cuisine.

And it is healthier. It has less saturated and trans fats than vegetable oil. You can use olive oil for cooking, on bread, etc. It's not reccommended for frying though because it burns and smokes-- then your food is nasty and your kitchen stinks. Use veggie oil for that. I also don't recommend it for baking like cakes and things. I ran out of veggie oil once and used O.O. in a cake mix and it was soooo disgusting lol.

I think brand matters in O.O. selection. I prefer Bertoli myself. There are better brands, but that one has good flavor and is affordable. Be sure to buy ';extra virgin'; as it's the healthiest and better tasting. They make ';light'; olive oil too and it doesn't have as strong of a flavor. I prefer extra virgin though.

Hope this helped! good luck!Does olive oil have a real flavor?
I am not a big fan of olives either but olive oil does not taste like olives. Some restaurants serve it with some salt and pepper for dipping bread and it is very good, does not taste like olives at all.

I use it in pasta to keep it from sticking together. I have also used it in many baking recepies calling for vegie oil including breakfast cakes and cannot taste a difference.

Some olive oils are lighter than others. It comes in a variety of grades, try one of the lighter ones first.
I live in greece and my family owns olive tree's and in the winter we pick the olives and take them to be made into olive oil. This fresh olive oil does taste ALOT like olives, and can be overbearing, but most of the oils you buy have been filtered so much that they do not taste like olives. There are many types and if you read the bottles, it will tell you which have a strong or mild flavour. Go for the mild.

Extra virgin olive oil should not be used for cooking, only for adding to salads and sauces.
Olive oil does indeed have a flavor. If you don't like the taste of olives, you may or may not like the taste of olive oil. From my experience, it really doesn't taste much like those horrible black and green/brown things people seem to enjoy serving as hors d' oeuvres. You can also get flavored olive oil. Some comes flavored with garlic or sun dried tomato...although if you don't like those, you're out of luck there.
Yes, it does have a flavour, but no, it doesn't taste like olives. I live in the UK and lots of my friends hate olives, but use olive oil at home.

Try avoiding virgin and extra virgin olive oil when you start cooking with it, start with the more yellow olive oil which has a more subtle flavour, then go onto the next: virgin and keep going until you try them all.
Yes, and there are different kinds.

You have to try and taste several to find the one you like the best.

As for the person who said that you don't drink olive oil, in the Mediterranean (and several restaurants around the world) they will serve you some olive oil for you to sip.
    People don't drink Olive Oil.

It is a condiment or alternative to vegetable oil in frying. It has a unique flavour but does not exactly replicate olives as it is pressed, mixed etc.

Could you not just try a bit instead of making a huge fuss?
    Try it...

It does not taste like you are eating an olive.

Besides there are MANY kinds of olives so you cant say you hate olives.

Also, all the olives you have eaten have been cured or flavored in some way. Raw olives taste a lot different
Olive oil doesn't taste like olives that you get from a can or a jar. Depending on the brand and the pressing, the flavor ranges from nothing to a nice fruity taste.
Extra virgin and virgin definitely taste like olives.

However, extra light olive oil has no taste at all.
It tastes wonderful, just like olives. Enjoy!
Yes, olive oil doesn't taste like olives at all - I hate them too, so I know what you mean. But yeah olive oil has a great flavor and is healthy.
    Yes, olive flavour!
Yes it does, but it is not strong like the actual olive.

Can I use olive oil in place of vegetable oil for baking brownies?

It's my brother's 17th birthday and I wanted to bake him brownies. If olive oil doesnt work, is there anything else that can be used in place of it?Can I use olive oil in place of vegetable oil for baking brownies?
yea u can use melted butterCan I use olive oil in place of vegetable oil for baking brownies?
If it's ';pure'; olive oil, not extra-virgin. If it's very green in color, or it smells strongly of olives, you don't want to use it; it will make the brownies taste like olives. If it's yellow and has no odor, go for it. If you can't use your olive oil, you can use corn oil, canola oil, or melted butter. (If you need to use melted butter, increase the amount by about 10%, and decrease the amount of water or milk by the same amount, since butter has some water in it.)
    Noooooooooo, they'll taste AWFUL!

How can I get Olive Oil out of a shirt?

Once a olive oil gets on a shirt I can never get it out. I try everything and I cant. Does anyone know a way?How can I get Olive Oil out of a shirt?
Grease and oil must be removed thoroughly, otherwise a semitransparent stain will set and will turn dark from all the soil it attracts. To treat a grease stain, it helps to know what kind of oil. To remove a grease stain, first remove as much of the greasy substance as possible without forcing the grease farther down into the fabric fibers. Use a paper towel to blot and absorb all the grease that you can. Next, apply a drawing agent such as baking soda, cornstarch, or talcum powder. Rub it in gently, and let it sit for 15-30 minutes to allow the agent to absorb and draw the grease out of the fabric. Brush the powder off thoroughly and check the stain. If it looks like you can absorb more grease, repeat the process. Next, lay the fabric over a thick rag or a heavy fold of paper towels. Working from the back of the fabric, blot with Energine Cleaning Fluid (found at hardware stores, home centers and some grocery stores near the laundry additives). Change the pad under the fabric as needed and repeat if necessary. When grease stains are stubborn we need to fall back on the idea that grease removes grease. Spray the grease spot with WD-40 lubricant (yes, you heard it right!) and let it soak for 10 minutes. Then work in undiluted dishwashing liquid and work well between your thumbs. Flush with the hottest water you can for the fabric, pretreat, and launder as usual. Do not use this method on silk or crease-resistant finishes. Many grease stains will eventually turn yellow when set with age and heat. Treat these stains by soaking in diluted hydrogen peroxide or Brilliant Bleach (which is made by Soapworks, a manufacturer of nontoxic, user-friendly %26amp; earth-friendly clean products. Check this out at www.soapworks.com). Don't use this process unless you know that the clothes are colorfast. Use Energine Cleaning Fluid on dry-clean-only fabrics, or take to a professional dry cleaner. For heavily soiled, greasy work clothes, try pouring a can of original Coca-Cola in the washer with your detergent and launder as usual. The combination of sugar and cola syrup words wonders! Of course, it's always best to get these kinds of stains when they are fresh, the first time. But, you'll never know what will work, even if it's been through the dryer a few times. See if these tips work for you. %26lt;*)))%26gt;%26lt;How can I get Olive Oil out of a shirt?
Try Oxyclean, or use straight laundry detergent (wear rubber gloves) and scrub the spot with it directly and let it soak, then wash the soap out. You could also look for a de-greaser, but that is pretty harsh and might damage the shirt.

Water will make the oil set down into the fibers and make it harder to remove. You need something to break up the oil, soap, de-greaser, or Oxyclean.
Get Popeye or Bluto to help you out.
try grinding some kitty litter into a fine powder, then rubbing it into the stain. kitty litter gets oil out of concrete, i don't see why it wouldn't work on a shirt.
    u cant
nothing that contains bleach which will make a spot on your shirt. Use a non-bleaching product.

If you've already dried it in the dryer, the stain has baked in already and won't come out.

Oil and Grease: Sprinkle some cornstarch or baking soda on the stain, then place the garment, stain side down, on a large rag on top of an ironing board. Iron with a hot iron on the wrong side of the stain --most oil and grease stains will come right out. (This trick works only for oil and grease, which need heat to dissolve.)
try rubbing some lemon juice on it
Soak it in an Oxy Clean solution for an entire day.
cut it out, patchs are in anyway
Well, I'm afraid.. that if U already washed the skirt there's nothing else U can do.

Because once the skirt made contact with water, the oil will get impregnated more than it did before the wash.

But have U tried hot water??
    WASH IT DUMMY
Is it one of your favorite shirts, then keep trying, but if it is not, buy a new one. Problem solved.
Olive oil hmmmm. I need to know what color shirt and then email me with it at austinthered15@yahoo.com.
If you rub the spot with baby powder or baking soda that should absorb the oil. However, it should have been done immediately, before it dried. You can also try plain old club soda. Look at it this way, it can't make it worse.
Try using dish washing detergent ( palmolive, dawn, etc.). Put it on the spot and rub it in then wash as normal. Hope it works for you.
