I spilled hot olive oil on my new untreated soapstone countertop and can't get the stains out. Any ideas?

I've tried Dawn, Comet, chlorine bleach, and something called Goof Off. Nothing seems to work. I'm afraid the stain is now permanent.I spilled hot olive oil on my new untreated soapstone countertop and can't get the stains out. Any ideas?
Soapstone is suppose to be impenetrable. More than likely the stain is just on the surface. You can take some fine sandaper and work the area the spill was. Soapstone is supposed to be treated on occasion with mineral oil this helps in the natural darkening process, after you have removed the stain, be sure to treat it with the oil, it might help blend in any remaining discolorationI spilled hot olive oil on my new untreated soapstone countertop and can't get the stains out. Sounds like you should spill hot olive oil over the rest of the countertop.
Yep, I think the stain is now permanent too.

but - I would first try some Laquer thinner, or Acetone, as they both are good oil sovents and evaporate quickly.

My guess is the stain will still be there.

Next best thing is to oil the entire surface in order to get an even color. use mineral oil, instead of a food-based oil so there will be no rancid odors over time.
Cut a Lemon in half and then dip it in some table Salt and rub gently leave this for a few minutes then rinse with warm water and dry with a soft cloth

How to Clean Soapstone

Use: A few drops of dishwashing liquid or all-purpose cleanser and warm water.

Tools: A soft cloth or sponge.

Tips: Rub with mineral oil every couple of weeks during the first year to help the stone oxidize (darken) evenly. Oil every two months after that.

Tough Stains: Soapstone resists water, chemicals, and acids, so it rarely stains. Small scratches can be removed with fine sandpaper. Good Luck !
