Can you replace canola oil with olive oil in a scone recipe?

I am making whole grain scones and I thought I had canola oil, can I use olive oil in its place? Can you replace canola oil with olive oil in a scone recipe?
Taste--please use safflower, sunflower, corn or vegetable oil--olive oil is too strongly flavored to use in something like scones...Can you replace canola oil with olive oil in a scone recipe?
I would not recommend unless it is extra virgin olive oil. There will be a taste to the olive oil that isn't present in the canola. Otherwise it should work.
I think Elbow meant to say ';unless it's extra light olive oil';. Light olive oil barely has an olive taste, but virgin oil is going to make it taste a little olive-y. However, you still might have a decent scone with the virgin olive oil.
No - maybe vegetable oil might work
If you use olive oil, the scones will inherit the flavor. Olive oil should be reserved for savory dishes that the flavor will compliment, but using it for baking will cause the piece to taste strange.
well..
can, but they'll taste nasty, IMO
Yes you can. I do it ALL the time. We make sweet and savory scones, and with the extra light olive oil, no one I've served them too has mentioned a difference in taste. Try whole wheat scones with thyme and cheddar. They are so fabulous [1 tsp or as desired dry thyme-crushed and 1/2 cup shredded or finely diced cheddar [I like extra sharp].
