I bought some olive oil, and I'm not sure how to cook with it. For instense I'm cooking fried potatoes and pork chops for dinner, and I thought of useing olive oil instead of veggie oil, but I dont want it to taste bad.Does Olive oil have a better taste in cooking than Veg oil?
I absolutely love olive oil. In fact its the only oil i ever use for cooking. I think it has more flavor than veggie oil, but thats just me.Does Olive oil have a better taste in cooking than Veg oil?
i believe olive oil tastes better, you may want to use extra virgin olive oil, it is milder in flavor. you will probably notice a difference in taste, but is not necessarily bad.
As mentioned, there are various types of olive oil... there's extra virgin and regular, and there is also now a ';lite olive oil'; which has virtually no taste at all.
The extra virgin has the ';strongest'; flavor and so is usually called for when using it straight out of the bottle (for salad dressings, or for drizzling over a cooked something-or-other, etc).
All are fine for cooking with though (and all are the healthy ';monosaturated'; oils), and most foods pair well with the flavor of even extra virgin olive oil... I just wouldn't want to use it on something sweet, or perhaps in a cuisine that wasn't Middle Eastern and you wanted no other flavors but those (though often fine for many of those too).

I often use Olive Oil instead of Veg oil. It doesn't taste any different to me when things are cooked, but they smell a little different. I used to only use veg, but now I think I prefer Olive oil. I think it's supposed to healthier for you too, or something like that.
The olive oil will add a bit of flavor to your dishes, but usually it's not enough to make a big difference. It depends a lot on the quality of olive oil you got. Virgin olive oil has a stronger smell %26amp; taste than extra virgin olive oil. I use extra virgin olive oil to do 95% of my cooking.
We have just returned from Spain after 10 years.......We owned our own Olive and Almond farm.....We have been to the factory's
and seen fist hand what goes on when it comes to pressing olives into oil......Olive oil comes in many grades of processing.
The highest grade of olive oil is EXTRA VIRGIN which has been pressed one time only.....This can be very expensive depending on the quality and region of the olive......Next is Virgin which has been pressed and processed a little more........These, because of the cost and quality...plus at times the strong flavour..you never use for cooking..Use them for salads , dressings..or petite recipe's where the flavor can add to the meal........Olive oil below these grades which can be as many as three or four are weaker and milder and are usually from mixed olives of green and ripe black ones....and lower quality. These are used for frying, but can still impart a flavour to the food.........If you want my advise buy one bottle of Extra Virgin for salads etc........And corn oil or similar for deep or shallow frying........Do not buy vegetable oil as this is usually hydrogenated in process, and that's bad for you...........
